Q -What is L-PESA?

Q -Is L-PESA a mobile network? Or a bank or what is it?

L-Pesa is a financial institution that aims at revolutionizing the micro-loan market with state-of-the-art technology, making your mobile money experience 100% virtual giving you access to money anywhere, anytime at your convenience.

Q- Is l-pesa regulated?

L-pesa works to comply with all set rules and regulations in a country it does business. This includes all regulations affecting conduct of our business.

Q - What are the eligibility criteria to qualify for an L-PESA loan?

A - 6 months history with one of our mobile money partners such as Safaricom, a completed registration with L-pesa as underlined in the registration process, a good credit score with the CRBs.

Q - How can I register with L-pesa?

To register with L-pesa, access the L-pesa website or download the app from the Google Play store via a smartphone and get started.

Q - Where can I get the L-pesa app?

 The L-pesa app is available in the Google play store, Aptoide app store, App gallery store, and apkmonk store. All the links will be available on the L-pesa website.

Q - Does the app require me to have bundles?

The app requires an internet connection. So if you are a user of mobile data, carrier charges will apply and require bundles. If however, you are using the free Wi-Fi connection, only the connection speed will matter.

Q- Does L-pesa have an ussd for registering and loan access?

NO. At the moment, we only rely on the app and the website to offer our services.

Q - What is the difference between the get started and sign-in buttons?

The get started button starts the registration process while the sign-in button starts entering the account process.

Q - Why can’t I sign in?

Sign-in will only become a problem due to poor network connection, a number not registered and the password or security pin being incorrect. 

Q - How do I apply for a loan?

A - On the Website, click on the blue sign-in button, enter your correct phone number, enter the password, complete the Recaptcha and then click on the login button. Click on the loans button. Apply for the loan that is ready for you.

B - In the app, click on the black sign-in button, enter the phone number and click login, enter the security pin to login. Click on the loans button. Apply for the loan that is recommended.

Q - How much am I required to pay back every week?

A - Each loan comes with a defined payment plan/installment. This is clearly explained in a registered account with an active loan. We have also provided the loan calculator in the app and the website for all the loan calculations.

Q- What happens when I overpay my Loan?

A - Overpayments will be transferred as credit and will be deducted from subsequent loans repayments. This excess will then be moved to the account wallet for paying the next loan either partially or fully. This means that, if for example, you overpaid your loan by ksh.20, this will be credited to your next loan repayment.

Q - What happens if I don't repay my loan in time? -

A -We only give you one chance. If you do not repay your loan on time, you will lose your access to cash, and your credit score with L-Pesa shall go down to Zero.

Q. Is it possible to Repay the loan at a later date?

Unfortunately, once your loan has been approved and released for payment. The scheduled date of repayment cannot be changed. Please be advised accordingly on this.

Q - How do I apply for an L-PESA loan when I am in a country where my mobile network does not support mobile banking?

A -You can always apply through our website from any device with internet access.

Q -Why should I trust L-PESA? The question is why should L-Pesa trust you?

A -The simple answer is that we believe in you, and also that everyone deserves a fair chance at building their credit history with L-Pesa and enjoying access to cash any time it is needed. Should you decide not to pay back your loan, you will simply lose your credit with us and will no longer be recognized as an L-Pesa customer.

Q -How long do I need to wait to receive my loan after application?

A - If you meet our criteria of a 6-month history and minimum of 10 transactions history with any of our mobile banking partners, you will get the loan within 5 minutes* deposited directly into your mobile money account.

*Please note that in some situations, delay might occur from our partners.

Q -  What could prevent my loan from getting approved?

The first REASON: providing the wrong information. When registering your account with L-Pesa, list your name and number just as they appear on your ID. The second REASON: your mobile banking account has not existed for at least six months. Furthermore, you should have done no less than ten transactions within the same period.

Q -What is the maximum amount of money that I can get as a loan from L-PESA?

A -When you build your credit history and trust with L-Pesa you can borrow up to Ksh. 70,000

Q -Is it possible to get a loan of ksh. 10,000 or more without first taking smaller loans?

A - No. By taking smaller loans you have the chance to build your credit history with L-Pesa and by that, we shall get to know you better. When you complete the cycle of our microloans, you become an "L-Pesa preferred customer" and this will entitle you to bigger loans with better interest rates and longer periods to return your loan.

Q -How do I pay back my loan to L-PESA?

To repay the loan in Kenya, use the mpesa paybill 715489, enter the registered phone number or the loan reference number as the account number and enter your pin to complete the payment.

We have also provided you with the means to pay directly in Kenya from your app.

Q -If I pay the loan before the schedule, will I be allowed to apply for another loan before the expiration of the loan repayment period?

A -Yes

Q -How do we reach you in case we have questions to ask about L-PESA services?

A - Online via our secure website or our social media channels such as Facebook, Whatsapp and Twitter. We have also provided phone numbers and email in the help and support section of the app.

Q - Is the contact phone number toll-free?

No. All the normal call and SMS charges apply when you contact us via our phone line.

Q -I have been a mobile money subscriber for my network for over six months and I have had over ten mobile money transactions but at the moment my account has no balance, can I still apply for a loan successfully.

A -Yes. We seek to trust you and we are happy that you would decide to build your credit history and affirm trust with L-Pesa.

Q -Is it possible to apply for a loan for someone else who meets all the qualifications?

A -No. If someone else meets all the criteria it means he can apply directly with L-Pesa and will not need to apply through someone else.

Q -Who is a L-pesa Preferred Customer?

A - When you complete the cycle of our microloans, ksh. 250 to ksh. 10,000, only then you become "L-Pesa preferred customer" and you will be able to get more and bigger loans with better loan returning rates and longer periods.

Q -How can we get your flyers or any information documents about L-Pesa?

A - L-Pesa is a complete virtual micro-credit solution. Our vision is to make financial access a  "Paperless" process, where there are no documents and it is simple to apply and manage using your own Mobile Banking account.

Q - For one to qualify for an L-PESA loan do they need to have their existing businesses or what are they putting up for the loan's security?

A -We offer all our loans completely unsecured, meaning that there is no need for security or collateral. The only security for one to qualify for an L-Pesa loan is your trust and your trust, yes simple as that.

Q -What is the difference between L-PESA and other normal banking and mobile banking services?
